Once again I am behind in blogging (of course I am the only one who knows that and maybe the only one who cares). Nonetheless, this summer has been a busy one and it begs to be blogged for posterity sake. I can only imagine the damage it would do to Cambel and Ada if the summer of 2010 was only a fuzzy memory and not a well documented post.
Especially since the summer of 2010 was the first time we camped as a family. All of us...in a tent...camping...outside...
A couple of weeks ago Kevin sold his weight equipment and used the money to buy a tent large enough for our whole family to sleep in--like on a real camping trip... with the whole family...in a tent...outside...
And then we planned said trip on one of the hottest days of the year.
We packed up and planned a small picnic dinner. Unfortunately I forgot the hot dogs at home--which happened to be the main part of a our small meal.
And Kevin only brought a flint to start the fire--no matches, no starter log, no kindling, nothing. Just a flint, some dry grass, and the fire starting skills he learned from watching Bear Grylls.
And Kevin managed to start the fire with only his flint, dry grass, and a lot of blowing. He was sweating buckets, but when he had his fire going we were all pretty impressed.
As equally impressive as Kevin's undercover Bear Grylls skills was the fact that we managed to put up the entire tent correctly, together, without needing to hire a 3rd party mediator.
Ada and Cambel took a walk,
Kevin and Cambel caught a fish,
and after a long night in which the air mattress lost air, Ada ended up under my cot, and Cambel developed the snore of a grown man, our family camping trip was complete.
And even though we were all in a tent...outside...camping...we had a great time and are planning to go again (when it is cooler, and I remember the hot dogs, and we have a new air mattress, and maybe we can just put the tent up in the living room).
