And after all that work...

Kevin was gone all last week in Scotland. I spent the week with the kids in Louisville with Nana and Papa, and although we had a great time, I have been too busy and perhaps too lazy to post pictures yet.
Anyway, I haven't been too busy/lazy to think about what my Saturday looked like. Kevin was scheduled to come home on Friday but his flight was cancelled due to a bizarre set of circumstances (like they turned around over the Atlantic), so we had a full Saturday morning to kill before I could pick him up from the airport.
I am training for a sprint triathlon this summer and it has caused me to commit to all kinds of crazy things, like working out more than twice a week for more than 15 minutes at a time. I needed to get some biking in, but with no one to watch the kids the options were limited. So I decided to pull them both in the bike trailer.
So...
I dressed the kids and combed Ada's unruly hair so she didn't look quite so homeless.
We all went out to the van.
I loaded the bike.
I realized the trailer wheels needed air.
I searched in vain for the pump.
I took Ada back into the house to eliminate the atrocious smell emanating from her diaper.
We went back out to the van.
I loaded the trailer.
I remembered where the pump was and went back to the garage to get it.
I buckled the kids into their carseats.
We drove to the park.
I unloaded the bike.
I unloaded the trailer.
I unloaded the kids.
I pumped up the tires numerous times before it worked.
I loaded the kids in the trailer.
I biked 30 seconds and stopped to fix something hanging off my bike.
I started biking again and realized the kids are a lot heavier than they were last summer.
A minute and a half later we were caught in a torrential downpour.
Awesome.

Sometimes daily life is just a bit more complicated than what I anticipated it to be.

What a great post!!! I pulled the girls for the first time this summer! What a terrible workout. It is much easier to push in a running jogger:) Hope you guys are doing well. Hope to talk to you soon

I think this sums up daily life with kids perfectly. It was a whole lot easier when you could just go biking...running...or swimming. All of these take so much planning, babysitters, and energy now that I'm wondering why we aren't rethinking this race idea!

Great Post Maria! I wish we lived closer and could do this together, or at least then we'd have a sitter while the other went:)
