Torrential rain, soccer, cross stitching, and grandparents

Just in time for Ada's birthday party and a last minute house showing, Mom and Dad came for a visit. Mom graciously helped with Ada's party and contributed more than her fair share in a mad dash to get the house show ready with 10 minutes warning. The next day was torrential rain and in a show of great irony, the kids' soccer games went on undaunted even though they had been cancelled for what appeared to be just a threat of rain in the past. Ada spent the entire game trying to keep her hood on and burrowing as deep as she could into her layers of clothing and wondering why on earth she had ever signed up for soccer in the first place.
The ref for Cambel's game announced he had to leave--my guess he, like Ada, decided standing in cold  torrential rain was just a dumb idea, and in the very thin crowd there was no one to step in. Enter Kevin (in his khakis no less), who has never played soccer in his life and knows only a few more rules to the game than I do. The power went straight to his head and he single handedly shortened the game time and yelled for Cambel's team with little to no objectivity. Unlike Ada, Cambel threw himself into the game and scored several goals. By the end of the games, my jeans would hardly stay on they were so heavy with the rain water they absorbed. Needless to say it was miserable but memorable.

Ada recovered enough from the rain soaked trauma she endured during the game to practice cross stitching with Grandma. Mom deserves a special award for the amount of patience it takes to teach a fidgety 7 year old how to make a cross stitch.
The sun came out for us later and we took a walk at Shaker Village...
...and ended the evening with a couple of Three Stooges episodes. All's well that ends well!
