Ada is my dreamer and planner and she spent the time leading up to her birthday dreaming and planning a party. I haven't hosted an actual invite-all-your-friends-birthday-party for awhile so I decided it was a good idea. I did however, intentionally give her reasonable choices about her party so that she would have a say in how it went, but I wouldn't be running around like a crazy woman trying to decorate every room of the house in a different and complex theme (one of her many ideas). At one point, while discussing food, and apparently sensing my angst about being in charge of a party, Ada calmly and kindly said "Can you handle all this?" Poor girl. She really needed a fun event planner for a mother.
Stuck with me as she is, we forged on. Thankfully my mom and dad were coming the day of her party and Mom took on the status of a saint and helped me set up and clean up and make a modge podge craft with 8 1st grade girls.
In the end it was a success (if the high pitched screaming of 8 girls is an any indication, then it was a RAVING success). Ada said it was perfect and she loved it--more than enough to make it worth it.
All the girls getting hyped up on pink lemonade.
A crafty friend let me borrow her homemade birthday banner, which thrilled Ada.
I made her cake to her specifications. I am sure in her mind "green stripes, white icing, pink letters and a huge 7" looked a little fancier, but she was happy with my somewhat tacky final product.
Ada is always somewhat of a surprise to me--full of ideas and dreams and quirks that make her so special to us.
Happy birthday sweet girl!
