Today was the big day...I ended up going with a pink theme and an angel food cake as opposed to the dog party with a banana cake, but I am pretty sure Ada was happy with the results. Having Ada's party after a long morning of church was a bit of a risk, so we had hot dogs and macaroni (and a few more advanced choices for the adults) to avoid any confrontation over food. I even threw in a little pink kool-aid--a first for Ada--and I think she is officially a sugar addict. She threw back a few sippy cups of watered down pink kool-aid in a matter of minutes (anything to keep the birthday girl happy). The party attendees included Grandma and Grandpa, Great-Grandpa and Grandma, "Aunt" Kathy (a dear family friend) and Mark, an AU student from Kenya who came to church with us. I think he may have only heard the food part of our invitation and not the 2-year-old-pink-birthday party part. Ada thoroughly enjoyed the meal and her cake...
Of course every parent says this at every birthday, but it is hard to believe our Ada is 2. What did our family do before she was born...what did we do before she started to talk...what did we do before she started to love to read her books and play with her baby dolls....what did we do before she started expressing her strong spirit (this of course is a euphemism for "wow, she is hard to discipline!")...what did we do before this little blue-eyed, curly-haired Ada girl made her place in our home? Well, we didn't drink pink kool-aid or have pink parties and we also didn't have the privilege of seeing a tiny baby develop into a little girl bursting with life and possibility.
We love you Ada! Happy Birthday!
