I have discovered that it is actually a complex set of dance moves performed to music and carried out at a pace designed to not only make me look like a complete idiot, but to also increase my heart rate and give me a workout that will make my legs ache and cause involuntary dancing throughout the day as "all the single ladies" plays in my head.
I am quite sure that I was not created for this kind of exercise, but I have to admit (despite my complete massacre of most of the moves) that it is pretty fun. The added bonus is that a couple of moms from MOPS are there, and I think trying to follow the perky instructors (who like to "freestyle" it and add arm movements that further complicate the original step and increase the odds that I will be doing something that looks like the opposite of what they are doing) might be the foundational layer of our friendship. Because if someone is willing to stand next to me while I attempt to exercise/dance and then talk to me later, they are probably friend material.
(As the old saying goes--"God made us acquaintances, Zumba made us friends")
Now go on and enjoy your day while you imagine me hip hopping my way to fitness.

My mom does zumba, but it is mostly to latin/middle eastern pop. Since Laurin and I dont like to make people feel inadequate next to our rhythmic brilliance we take the spinning classes. They are hard work and require no dancing.
I've been wanting to try zumba.. maybe I will just have to if you've done it! :) wish we could do it together.
My sis just tried this, she described it as interresting! I'm glad you are meeting people! I wish I lived closer!
