Easy Conversation

This week at preschool, Cambel's class visited the Fire Department. I decided to start pulling my weight as a parent and volunteer to help drive. So off we went with Ada, Cambel, and Thatcher in a caravan of other large vehicles packed with children filled with excitement about fires and trucks.
On the way there Cambel tried to have a conversation (and I use that term loosely) with his friend Thatcher (who happened to have a terrible cough and was just back from several days of being sick. So it was great that he was in my car). Thatcher happened to be wearing a stocking cap that covered his mouth (which made me feel a little better about the hacking cough). The conversation went something like this:

Cambel: Thatcher, I watched Diego.

Thatcher: Muffled noises.

Cambel: I can't hear you, pull your hat down. I watched Diego.

Thatcher: I have Legos.

Cambel: No, Diego is a guy.

Thatcher: My Legos don't have any guys.

Cambel: (with no hint of malice) I'm done talking to you. You can put your hat back up.

Oh how easy to be four! As an adult you have to stick around taking turns listening and responding and waiting for the conversation to wind down and closing your dialogue with appropriate ending comments. You could never get away with saying "I'm done talking to you. You can walk away now."Not that I have ever wanted to say that...

I wish I could say I havent ended conversations in a similar way. I call it my unique sense of humor. Laurin calls it me being obnoxious.

Maria, I was laughing so hard I could hardly read it to Adriel. We both could picture Cambel trying to get his friend to take off his hat and talk to him. I can't wait to see the kids again next week. We sure do miss them.
