You've Come A Long Way Baby

Today Ada is 1 year old. It hardly seems like she could have already been with us that long.  Of course in the middle of the night those first few weeks, time did not pass so quickly, but looking back this year has flown by.
When Ada was first born,  the nurse laid her on me and she just looked around with her eyes wide open. Then she nursed for about an hour.  The next day the nurse was in my room trying to get her to nurse because she was too stubborn to latch on.
A year later, not much has changed.
She is a little more vocal than those first few moments (saying "uh oh" and "doppy doppy, beeta beeta"--we don't know what this means but she says it a lot), but she is still more quiet and reserved than Cambel.
And she is still nursing--refusing to drink anything else from anything else.
And clearly she is still stubborn. Underneath her watchful gaze is a little girl with a mind of her own. And sometimes that gets expressed in some waving of the arms and some deep gutteral screaming.
Of course Ada is more than just this. She is our special little girl that has brought much joy to our family. The curls around her ears,  her bright blue eyes, and her developing person has endeared her to us.
We love her and we can't imagine our family without her.
Happy Birthday Ada!
