2 years ago we got the kids a puppy for Christmas. And then sold the puppy in February. Because we are amazing parents.
Ada has been begging for another dog for a long time and we were doing some research on an affordable, trained, non shedding dog (in other words, a stuffed animal). The whole "adopt a dog" world is frankly a little weird, because we adopted a real person and I have a real problem with all the sentimental language around canines needing homes but whatever. Long story short, we were going to get a dog rescued from a breeding mill but out of the blue my sister called and put me in touch with a friend from home whose mom is sick and could no longer care for her dog.
A few days and one trip to Indiana later, and we were officially dog owners again.
His name is Mickey and he is all I wanted in a dog: non shedding, trained (he's 7 years old), small enough to sit with you but not tiny, good with kids, and lazy. We love him an embarrassing amount.
Even Humphrey the Hamster is a fan.
He lays around all the time..unless he is "protecting" us from a person at the door or a car driving by.
I think this gives us a higher parenting rank. Or at least cancels out selling the first dog.
