Cambel somehow turned 11 and Ada is already 8. Every year it catches me by surprise that they don't stop growing.
Ada chose to have her big present be taking her best friend Gabby to spend the night in Louisville with Nana and Papa. She planned and waited with great anticipation and the time did not disappoint. They made food, decorated hats, had a lemonade stand, hosted a fashion show, and planned numerous intricate game for us all to participate in when we came to pick them up (all of which I managed to get zero pictures of).
Ada is such a fun planner and dreamer--her mind is always turning with her next big idea. She is a delight in so many ways and it is a joy to watch her grow.
Birthday cookies at school
She requested ice cream sandwich cookies instead of a cake.
Cambel chose to keep the Kings-Island-trip-with-Dad tradition this year. He loves planning what roller coasters they will ride and he spending time with just his Dad. (and it doesn't hurt that he gets to leave school early)
Ada and I tried really hard to decorate a table with a "Track and Field" theme for his birthday dinner. Pinterest would not have been impressed but it was fun to try, and Cambel is easy to please and always grateful for any effort made. He is between 2 worlds now--childhood and adolescence. It's interesting to watch him age and mature and navigate these years. We are so proud of him.
