The weather has been (below) freezing here and the kids have been home from school all week and the pipe to the washing machine froze....so Oliver enjoyed a little extra screen time on his special day while I ran around trying to figure out where the pipe was frozen (turns out I am terrible at that and it is one of Kevin's gifts--he had the water running again after way less effort and energy than I had expended).
Oliver also marked the day by making an inaguaral climb out of his crib during naptime and suddenly appearing on the stairs. He described his escape to me as "like a horse" (meaning he straddled the side of the crib) and then inquired as to whether or not that was a "good choice." No, not a good choice, but I couldn't help laughing, rendering any discipline useless.
We did have one of his favorite things for dinner and we all went out for ice cream to celebrate, something Oliver has been excited about for awhile. And we ended the day by watching some videos of him. We have all these clips of of him walking (remember when he wasn't supposed to do that until he was 2?) and jumping and dancing and singing and I love watching them again.
Oliver, from the first time I held you at the airport, to all the times in between, all the rocking you to sleep, all the reading books, all the running and jumping, all the "helping" you do when I cook, all your words-- all of it is a gift that we are so blessed to be a part of. You are our gift (albeit at times a challenging one:)), and we love you and are so happy you came home to us.
