Now that Oliver is finally home, we would like to do something for some of the orphanages in his birth country. In the capital city alone, there are at least five million orphans. Orphanages are severely under resourced, able to only provide the absolute minimum for what is needed to survive. The children sleep on extremely thin mattresses if they are lucky and most lay down each night on wood slabs or the dirt or concrete floor. Typically only ONE MEAL per day of rice or a mush type mixture (or beans if they are available) is provided. In speaking with the in-country lawyer with our agency I asked what we could do to help, even if it that help would seem to be just a drop in the bucket. She said that a simple multivitamin can make a huge difference for these children. Obviously the orphanages cannot afford these, and quality children's vitamins are difficult to purchase in the country. So we are working with some other adoptive families to help collect a large supply of children's multivitamins, along with the money needed to help send them overseas with our agency.
Would you like to help us make even just a small difference for these precious children? You can get involved by buying vitamins and getting them to us, or donating money to help pay the flight fee for them.
