But the best part of the whole weekend was meeting Marie--the in-country attorney for our agency. She is responsible for identifying children that are eligible for adoption, placing these children in foster care, and coordinating all of our legal documents. We were so excited to meet her because she has held our son. She met him when he was just a few days old. She has heard him cry, watched him take a bottle, held him close, felt him grasp her finger--all the things I so desperately want to do. Meeting her felt like it brought us closer to our little boy.
When I met her, she identified me as his mother, and that was such a great feeling. I got to sit with her and ask her all kinds of questions about our boy, his background, and his birth country. She explained the meaning of his name, assured me of his health and well being, and even told me several times that she liked him. Of course, who wouldn't like a cute little baby boy? But it was still nice to hear and so good to feel a connection to him and to hold on to precious information about who he is.It also made the waiting even harder. As he takes shape in my mind, it is more difficult to not have him in my arms.
