Six Years Old

It's official. I am the mother of a 6 year old boy.
When I first held Cambel after he was born it seemed like he would always be our baby. Of course "they" warn you of this--that your baby won't always be your baby, that these precious moments are fleeting--but it is hard to hear the advice amidst all the middle-of-the-night feedings, the unexplained crying, the exhaustion of early parenthood. It is hard to believe that you won't always rock them to sleep or carry them close to you...
so I didn't always notice the subtle changes that morphed into developmental leaps, that somehow turned my baby boy into a tall, talkative, interesting, 6 year old boy.
A boy with friends, who can't get enough of Star Wars, who shoots baskets on the goal in his room, who  likes to enact sword fights and wrestle, who is "totally" ready for kindergarten, who makes me cards, who is sweet to his little sister unless she dismantles his Legos, who loves the color green, who likes to jump and see how fast he can run, who imagines himself to be Bear Grylls and plays in the teepee in our yard, who can put himself to bed but still calls us into his room to talk,  a boy who has dreams and plans for his future that sometimes include new Star Wars figures or purchasing a Wii, and sometimes hint of something greater, of aspirations to live a life serving God and others.
Yes, we have a 6 year old boy full of possibility.

Happy Birthday Cambel! We love you!

Can't believe he's six...at least not anymore htan I can believe Grant's six. Ughh. I know it's actually great, but sometimes, especially after looking through baby books, it's just not so great, too. We love your Cambel! Hope he's had a great day!
Love,
Jen

You just turn around and they are no longer babies, then you turn around and they are in school, turn around and they are graduating, turn around and they are married with kids of their own. It will happen...it happened to your Dad and I. But there are joys all along the way. We love Cambel and Ada and you and Kevin:)
