When Cambel's preschool teacher told the parents that we should all attend the field trip to a pumpkin farm I naively thought Cambel would be thrilled to have me come along. But when probed, his response to "do you want me to come?" was "ummm....probably not." Finally he conceded that I could come "if I wanted to." (I later discovered that he was concerned he would not be able to walk and talk with his friends if I was there. After being reassured that my presence would not hinder his social standing he felt better and my self esteem started to recover).
It was fun to see him interact with his buddies and even though his initial response was less than enthusiastic, we both had a great time, even though I had to come along.
