Early in the first days of Spring Cambel started bugging me to plant some flower seeds. For some reason we got some in the mail (is the Postal Service stalking us?). With the arrival of that little packet, Cambel's green thumb was born. We planted the seeds inside first and watched them sprout. Cambel watered and faithfully checked to make sure their roots were developing by pulling them out of the soil to examine them. Finally it was warm enough and they were big enough to be outside and we somewhat haphazardly planted them in the mulch by our mailbox.
Fast forward a few months and we now have the largest marigold plant I have ever seen--despite the lack of good dirt, inconsistent watering, and the trauma they endured early on at the hands of their well meaning caretaker.
Cambel is clearly very impressed with himself.

I've been meaning to post a blog I wrote about my marigolds too! I don't even really like marigolds and told Brian to buy me any kind of annuals other than marigolds...so he bought me an entire flat of marigolds. On top of all the ones I planted, I had a bunch from last year return on their own. Honestly. And of all the flowers I've managed to kill, these marigolds are just enormous. They've taken over the entire flower bed.
I think marigolds might have some sort of mission to take over suburban America. You're lucky that marigold didn't attack Cambel when he stood next to it.
