This is the first Christmas that he has really understood the concept of asking for what you want. He has taken this idea and is now running with it, entirely enthusiastic about the world of toys and the possibility of receiving..well, all of them. He frequently makes mention of things he desires--trucks, john deeres, cars, basketball hoops, and toys I am not even sure exist. He announces loudly in stores "I could like that for Christmas" in regards to anything that looks remotely like a toy. He liberally circles items in the Wal-Mart Christmas catalogue. He even wakes up in the morning and tells us that he was dreaming about what he could get for Christmas.
We have explained to him (obviously in vain) that we will not be getting him everything he wants. He will get 3 gifts from us (Jesus got three gifts, and it seems like a manageable number). He has either disregarded this information, or he is choosing to live in the blissful land of childhood denial where all things desired come to you wrapped in lovely paper on Christmas morning.
I suppose that if he were older I might be concerned about all this "wanting." But as it stands, I am enjoying his enthusiastic wishes. And, I suppose it could all work in our favor in the end--if he really does want everything, he should love everything he gets.

I totally understand. Ella is the same way right now. I cannot wait till christmas is over because all I hear is "maybe Santa will bring me that." How do you explain this concept to a 3 yr old that you do not get everything.
