A "Children" Zoo

They are pretty cute...even though they aren't in cages

Today I am babysitting for 2 other children. (Things around here were getting a little dull, so I decided to mix it up a bit with 2 more preschoolers). I generally like children. (And when I say generally, what I mean is that I like them from afar, in small numbers, in a controlled environment, and preferably under the care of someone else. Similar to animals in a zoo. I think I would really like exhibits of small children playing happily in cages that are made to look like their natural environment). Honestly, I do really like my small charges today. They are cute and sweet and well behaved. It's just that I'm not that great of a babysitter. So when I do find myself taking care of more than just my own kids, I usually have the brilliant idea of doing some sort of activity together to pass the time (or to distract myself from the reality that, yes, in fact, I really am babysitting). So today we made pumpkin whoopie pies. It sounded like a fun fall treat. (In retrospect I should have taken into consideration that not only do I not make a great babysitter, I also don't really bake). Not to be deterred with silly details like recipes with 500 ingredients, several assembling steps, and 4 kids, we forged ahead with measuring, mixing, and baking. And it was actually kind of fun. Until we were nearing the end of baking the pies and the kitchen was a DISASTER and the kids got out Cambel's band-in-a-box instruments and serenaded Ada (did I mention I was also trying to feed her some cereal?).  We did however, manage to get the whoopie pies made and eaten (on a side note, somewhere along the way, I remembered that I don't really like whoopie pies) and the kids had fun...so much that they might want to come back.

You know how you said you were back to seeing the world more positively but still realistically? When a nonbaking unenthusiastic babysitter decides to attempt a complicated multistep baked sweet which she also DISLIKES? with 4 preschoolers that might encourage more requests for babysitting, I'd say your judgment might be in question. Your sense of humor, though, seems firmly intact, so let's just go with it. Thanks for the laugh.

Oops, didn't sign my name. Amy gets credit for that last remark, not Brian.

I told you the recipe was complicated - and I attempted it with no small children "helping".

This was pretty funny - made me LOL - which I have always wondered, does that mean laugh-out-loud or lots-of-laughs? I really don't like abbreviations, or small children, except mine and sometimes yours :)
